67 projects from 66 creatives and collaborative groups filled the entirety of Plas Bodfa, a currently empty manor house in Llangoed on the Isle of Anglesey. This remarkably multi-disciplinary group art exhibition explores the idea of ‘sui generis’, a Latin phrase meaning "of its (his, her, their) own kind; in a class by itself; unique”. It has been adopted by the legal profession for unusual buildings, properties that fall outside normal designation.
What are the possibilities of a house? With performance and painting, collage and ceramics, skateboarding and singing, poetry and polyrhythmic drumming, fairytales and photography, games and gramophones, sculpture and storytelling, re-enactments and a retroscope, this exhibition was a one-time opportunity to fill the currently vacant 36 room / 1,000 sqm space with creative acts, before complete renovation began.

more information
Caravansarai was the project of Julie Upmeyer and Anne Weshinskey, who first started working together artistically when they opened Caravansarai Art Space in 2010 in Istanbul. Just as the historical caravansarais hosted camel caravans along the Silk Road, they invited creative people–with or without camels–from around the globe for collaboration, residencies, experimentation, research, and exchange.
The establishment of this space brought them into contact with people all over the globe who passed through their little oasis in Karaköy. Repeat visitors to our space and events organically became part of their project. Even after the closure of their space, Caravansarai continues to be made up of a free-floating, international cadre of creative souls, shrinking and expanding according to the project. For international art fairs, competitive eating contests, residency opportunities, meatball wrestling, thematic shows, street performance, or any other inspiring event, they sporadically together as the occasion merits.

Visual, sound, installation, and documentary works by members of the Caravansarai Collective. The title of this exhibition is Perşembe Pazarı Project s—plural—because the entire series was made up of five prior segments leading up to this culminating Exhibition. From 2010-2013 the Caravansarai Art Space hosted Turkish and international artists who have been inspired enough by our situation in Perşembe Pazarı to create works with it as the focal point. This show is an homage the connection with the neighborhood of Perşembe Pazarı and the inspiration it provided us

A series of commissioned artworks incorporated into the renovation of the Tan Han, a 5 storey-building in the hardware district of Istanbul, Turkey.
The Perşembe Pazarı in Istanbul’s Karaköy neighborhood has been occupied almost entirely by hardware and construction suppliers for the past 30 years. But, like most of the rest of Istanbul, it has multiple histories, official and contrived, mundane and mythical. What is recorded? What is true? We’re collecting all of it; the hearsay and the text-book articles, the websites, the rumours and the ‘undisputed facts’.
Presenting this evolving collection of stories to invited artists, we asked them to create their own myths about the Karakoy neighbourhood to be told through any medium they desire. These myths will be built into the interior design and architecture of the building during the renovation process.

Explorations of culinary tradition, individual innovation, ingredient availability and the possibilities of shared experiences using internet technologies
The Virtual Chef combines elements of
- an art opening,
- a dinner party
- and a performance
Connected through the internet, participants in two locations simultaneously cook a dish, while exchanging information about the recipe, ingredients and anything else that comes to mind.
The project has traveled, physically and virtually, to Turkey, Iran, Germany, France, Poland, Romania, USA, Ukraine and many more locations throughout the world.

As an ‘Observer in Residence’, I am able to see the process of a project from an outsiders perspective – not part of the organising team and not a normal participant. I attempt to be a neutral presence, a clear eye into the evolution of the event, how it is placed and received in the surrounding environment and how the various participants interact amongst each other and the space.
Outputs can include: photographs, conversations, writings, thoughts, webpages, secrets, labor, arguments, books, future plans
