Operation Room will host Julie Upmeyer’s exhibition titled “in-finite”, between the dates of 19 October - 9 December 2017.

For the past year, Upmeyer has been working on her project “in-finite”, questioning the anthropocene with a utopic site-specific setup in the gallery space. In the present day, what does permanency mean for humans who are creators and protectors as well as consumers and destroyers? What role do “artificial” materials play in human sustainability, since compared to organic ones, they are actually more permanent and multipliable? Upmeyer’s artistic practice results in original interpretations of ready-made materials, distinct from their intended purpose. It is within this process that she discovers the infinite in the finite, and the finite in the infinite. The exhibition is comprised of five installations using diverse industrial materials such as gridded plastic floor tiles, chicken wire, insulation foam, linoleum and mirrors. One of the installations, “the infinity cube”, is produced from plexiglas in an edition of 1000 and is designed to be taken away by the visitors to the exhibition space.

“in-finite” is curated by Ilgın Deniz Akseloğlu, graphic design by Umut Altıntaş.
